你的孩子，並不是你的，乃是生命為其自身渴望而降臨的。
Your children are not your children. They are the
sons and daughters of Life's longing for itself.
他們經你而生，卻非你所造，他們與你相伴，卻不屬於你。
They come through you but not from you, And though
they are with you yet they belong not to you.
你們可以給他們以愛，卻不可以給他們你的思想。因為他
們有自己的思想。
You may give them your love but not your thoughts,
For they have their own thoughts.
你可以給他們你的愛，卻非你的思想，因為他們擁有自己的思想
因為他們的靈魂寓居在明日之屋，那是你夢中也不能探訪的地方。
You may house their bodies but not their souls,
For their souls dwell in the house of to-morrow,
which you cannot visit, not even in your dreams.
你可以盡力去模仿他們，卻不能指望他們和你相像。
You may strive to be like them, but seek not to
make them like you.
因為生命不能倒流，也不會在昨日停留。
For life goes not backward nor tarries with yesterday.
你是弓，而你的孩子是從弦上射發的生命之箭矢。
You are the bows from which your children as
living arrows are sent forth.
神箭手瞄向無窮遠的標的，以祂的神力將你拉彎，
讓祂的箭射得又快又遠。
The archer sees the mark upon the path of
the infinite,and He bends you with his might
that his aeeows may go swift and far.
你應任那神箭手將你彎滿並感到歡欣。
Let your bending in the archer's hand be
for gladness;
因為，一如祂喜愛飛去的箭矢，祂也同樣喜愛
沈穩的彎弓。
For even as he loves the arrows that flies,
so he loes also the bow that is stable.
